
Wolverines to Host Central Michigan, First Match of Season at Cliff Keen Arena

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (7-1) hosts Central Michigan in a midweek matchup on Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 7 p.m. in the first match of the season at Cliff Keen Arena. The contest will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• The Wolverines split their weekend against Virginia, falling in a five-set match on Friday (Sept. 12) before rebounding with a sweep of the Cavaliers on Saturday (Sept. 13). U-M opened hitting .412 in the first set on Friday, but trailed off until hitting just .091 in the fifth set. On Saturday, Michigan held Virginia to a .148 hitting percentage and hit .280 overall.
• Michigan leads the Big Ten and is fifth nationally in kills per set with a 14.72 average. The Wolverines are behind Iowa State, which leads the nation at 15.35 and is the only Power Four school ahead of U-M. The Wolverines are second in the conference in assists per set, averaging 13.41, and trail Wisconsin, which averages 13.85 a set. Michigan ranks in the top five in the Big Ten in attacks per set (third, 13.41), service aces (fourth, 57), aces per set (fourth, 1.97), hitting percentage (fifth, .303), assists (fifth, 389) and kills (fifth, 427).
• U-M boasts three of the top five conference leaders in hitting percentage. Serena Nyambio sits atop the Big Ten, hitting .472 with 59 kills and nine errors on 106 swings. Jenna Hanes is second, hitting .448 with 50 kills and seven errors on 96 swings. Lydia Johnson rounds out the top five, hitting .424 with 73 kills and nine errors on 151 swings.
• Leading the Wolverines in kills, Allison Jacobs has 131 on the season to rank third in the conference. She has recorded double-digit kills in each match this season, with a season-high of 24 coming against Wake Forest in the season opener. Jacobs is also third on the team in digs with 63 for a 2.17 per-set average. She has added five solo blocks, eight block assists and 15 service aces for 155 points this season.
• The starting setter for every U-M match this season, Morgan Burke leads the team in assists with 188. She is averaging 6.48 per set due to the team's 6-2 system. She has 1,844 career assists and is 156 assists from becoming the 10th Wolverine to reach 2,000 career assists.
• Maddi Cuchran has been the team's libero since the start of last season and, since then, has led the team in digs. This season, her 104 digs pace the Wolverines, and she is one of six players in the Big Ten with triple-digit digs.
• Ella Demetrician came off the bench against UVA on Friday and tallied five kills, two aces and three digs over the final three sets. She got a chance to start on Saturday and had six kills with two aces and a match-leading 13 digs. This season, Demetrician has 35 kills on 72 attacks while adding seven aces.
• Central Michigan is 3-6 on the season with wins against High Point, Milwaukee and UMKC. The Chippewas have lost back-to-back games, falling to Bradley and Jacksonville State over the weekend. The Wolverines are 8-24-1 against Central Michigan but have won the last four contests. The last match between the two programs was a Michigan sweep on Aug. 31, 2012.
