EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan baseball team earned a 12-11 victory over No. 15-ranked Oregon on Sunday afternoon (April 6) at PK Park in a game that featured multiple lead changes.
Michigan (17-14, 8-7 Big Ten) had four players record multiple hits, including Colby Turner, who tripled and homered as part of a five-RBI game. Matt Spear recorded his first career triple, scoring once and driving in two. Jeter Ybarra added a two-run home run, and Mitch Voit reached base five times, scoring three runs. Kurt Barr started on the mound and struck out six in 4.1 innings.
Oregon (22-9, 10-5 Big Ten) opened the game with a solo home run, but Barr retired the next three batters to end the first. The Wolverines had scoring opportunities in the first and second innings but were held scoreless.
Michigan got on the board in the third with a two-out rally. Voit was hit by a pitch and temporarily replaced by Keegan O'Hearn. Turner followed with an RBI triple, then scored on a single by Cole Caruso to put U-M up 2-1. Oregon tied the game in the bottom half with a single and a run scored on a wild pitch.
U-M regained the lead in the fourth. Robert Hamchuk was hit by a pitch and scored on Spear's triple. Brayden Jefferis laid down a bunt and reached safely to score Spear, making it 4-2. Barr struck out two in the bottom half to strand two runners.
In the fifth, Voit walked and Ybarra followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-2. Oregon responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-6 lead.
The Wolverines answered in the sixth. Greg Pace Jr. reached base and advanced to third on Jefferis' single. Voit walked to load the bases, and Turner delivered a grand slam to right field—his fourth home run of the season. Ybarra added a double, but the inning ended on a flyout, giving Michigan a 10-7 lead.
Will Rogers began the sixth with a strikeout before Oregon loaded the bases. Voit made a catch in shallow center and Hamchuk tracked down a deep fly to end the inning. Benny Casillas walked in the seventh but was left on base. Rogers issued two walks in the bottom of the frame but induced a popout to keep Oregon scoreless.
In the eighth, Michigan loaded the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch. After two strikeouts, Oregon walked in two runs to score Voit and Turner. The Ducks countered with a three-run home run in the bottom half to trim the deficit to 12-10.
Voit walked in the ninth but was caught stealing. Rogers returned to the mound and allowed a solo home run before being relieved by Cade Connolly, who issued a walk. Max Debiec then entered and induced a 4-3 double play to end the game.
