Three Home Runs Propel Michigan to Midweek Win Over Bowling Green

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Behind three home runs, the University of Michigan baseball team defeated Bowling Green 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon (April 22) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Michigan (23-17) got a strong start on the mound from Will Rogers (4-2), who went 5.2 innings and scattered two runs on five hits with one strikeout. Preston Barr, Grant Bradley, Brandon Newland, and Brandon Mann pitched the final 3.1 innings and kept the Falcons scoreless.
Offensively, the Wolverines were led by Greg Pace Jr., who reached base three times with a walk, triple, and home run. Mitch Voit and Matt Spear also added home runs in the contest, while Benny Casillas reached base three times.
Bowling Green (25-13) retired the first eight batters in a row before back-to-back singles in the third. A flyout ended the inning, stranding two runners on base.
Casillas opened the bottom of the first with a single, and Brayden Jefferis followed with a single of his own. After a flyout, Casillas scored on a sacrifice fly from Cole Caruso to open the scoring. U-M drew two walks with two outs in the second, but a flyout left the runners stranded.
In the third inning, Voit homered to left field to double the U-M lead. Rogers returned for 1-2-3 innings and sent the Falcons down in order in both the fourth and fifth. With two outs in the fourth, Tyler Inge reached on an error, and Pace homered to increase the Michigan lead to 4-0.
The Falcons got their first runs on the board in the sixth with two runs on three hits and left two runners on base. Michigan was held scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, and Barr pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
The Wolverines' offense loaded the bases in the seventh, drawing three walks with one out before a sacrifice fly from Jeter Ybarra scored Casillas. Spear followed with a home run to right field, bringing home Voit and Caruso to push the lead to 8-2.
One Falcon reached on an error in the eighth, and Michigan got a one-out triple from Pace. After a hit-by-pitch, Robert Hamchuk singled through the infield to score Pace.
Newland and Mann combined for a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the Wolverine victory.
Michigan will begin a three-game series against Michigan State on Friday (April 25), with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The contest will stream live on B1G+.
