
Cohen Records 100th Career Assist, Michigan Battles in Overtime Loss at No. 6 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. -- The No. 19 University of Michigan men's lacrosse team battled to the end, forcing overtime against No. 6 Duke but ultimately fell, 8-7, on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Koskinen Stadium.
The Wolverines (2-2) placed 21 of their 30 shots on target, forcing Duke (4-0) to make 14 saves. Senior Aidan Mulholland recorded his third multi-goal game of the season with two goals, while Lukas Stanat notched his second consecutive multi-goal game.
Senior Ryan Cohen became just the second player in Michigan lacrosse history to tally 100 career assists, recording two helpers. Sophomore Jack Jenkins added two assists, and Jack Marlow netted his first goal of the season.
Jack Rideout won eight faceoffs, while Hunter Taylor registered 10 saves for his second double-digit save performance of the season. Defensively, Michigan forced one shot clock violation, caused five failed Duke clears, and pressured the Blue Devils into 16 turnovers.
Michigan fired 10 shots in the first quarter, placing seven on frame. Mulholland set up Stanat for a goal with just 0.7 seconds remaining, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
The offensive momentum continued into the second quarter as Bo Lockwood scored less than five minutes in to extend the lead to 2-0. Duke responded with its first goal just over six minutes before halftime, but Marlow restored Michigan's two-goal advantage with a strike under the two-minute mark. The Blue Devils answered again in the closing seconds, cutting Michigan's lead to 3-2 at the break.
The Wolverines' midfield caused four failed Duke clears in the opening half, while Taylor tallied six saves. Michigan put 13 of its 22 first-half shots on target, applying consistent pressure on Duke's defense.
Duke opened the third quarter with a goal to tie the game at 3-3, but Dylan Bruno responded with his first career goal to reclaim the lead for Michigan. The Blue Devils, however, tallied back-to-back goals to take their first lead early in the fourth quarter.
Mulholland delivered a clutch pair of goals to swing the advantage back to Michigan, 6-5, with 8:38 remaining. Stanat added another score, confirmed after review, pushing the lead to two. Duke responded once more with two goals, evening the score at 7-7.
The Blue Devils called a timeout with 23 seconds left in regulation but missed their final attempt, sending the game into overtime. Duke ultimately secured the game-winner with two minutes remaining in the extra period.
Michigan returns to U-M Lacrosse Stadium on Tuesday (Feb. 25) for a 4 p.m. contest against Canisius, airing on B1G+.
