
Michigan Dominates Canisius, Cohen Eclipses 200 Career Points

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team earned a decisive 16-2 victory over Canisius in a midweek non-conference contest Tuesday (Feb. 25) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Senior Ryan Cohen became just the third Wolverine to eclipse 200 career points, joining Michael Boehm and Josh Zawada. The senior attacker led the Michigan offense with six points (two goals, four assists) to bring his career total to 201.
Sophomore Jack Jenkins had a career-high five points with four goals and one assist, while John Morgan and Nick Roode scored a pair of goals each. Junior Will O'Connor recorded his first career goal and Alex Lobel netted his first of the year and second of his career.
Defensively, Kees van Wees and Jack Marlow had three caused turnovers each, and Mason Whitney had three ground balls, while Hunter Taylor made eight saves for his third win of the season. The U-M backline has given up just three goals in two games at U-M Lacrosse Stadium and has allowed only one goal in the second half of action.
Roode scored four minutes into the contest, and Canisius (0-5) answered four minutes later to tie the game at one. The Wolverines (3-2) added two goals to close out the first quarter to take a 3-1 advantage after 15 minutes of action.
It was all Michigan in the second quarter as Jenkins scored three straight times to start the quarter and assisted on a DJ Dixon goal to extend the U-M's lead to 7-1. Morgan netted his second of the day as the Wolverines took an 8-1 advantage into the halftime break.
Jenkins had four points in the first half and Cohen added three with one goal and two assists. Marlow and Van Wees had two caused turnovers, and Taylor made seven saves.
U-M added two goals in the third quarter to carry a 10-1 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Just nine seconds into the fourth quarter Will Byrne recorded Michigan's 11th goal of the game before Canisius added its final goal of the contest with 11:54 left to play. The game was all Michigan in the closing eight minutes as U-M scored five straight goals to wrap up the win over the Golden Griffins.
Michigan returns to action next Tuesday (March 4) when it takes on Cleveland State at 5 p.m. at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
