DAYTON, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team battled but came up short in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against the No. 5-seeded Dayton Flyers, 2-0, at Baujan Field on Sunday (Nov. 24).
Isaiah Goldson tied a career-high with nine saves against the Flyers. Bryce Blevins paced the Wolverines with a team-best three shots.
Michigan (9-5-7) started fast with three shots in the opening 15 minutes. Blevins, Jason Bucknor and Matthew Fisher each had an attempt with the latter two putting their shots on frame.
Dayton (14-2-3) responded with four consecutive shots and began to build pressure, but the Wolverine defense continued to hold its ground and keep the game scoreless through 38 minutes. The Flyers found the breakthrough in the 39th minute as Ethan Sassine scored off a corner kick to fire the home side into the lead, 1-0, heading into halftime.
After more offensive pressure, Dayton found its second goal of the evening in the 61st minute as Sassine scored his second of the evening to double the host's advantage. The two teams traded shots in the remaining minutes of the second half, but the Maize and Blue could not find the back of the net as the 2024 season came to an end.
