ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (2-2) will remain at Phyllis Ocker Field for another two-game home weekend, hosting Davidson (2-2) on Friday (Sept. 8) at 6 p.m. and No. 10 Saint Joseph's (3-1) on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 1 p.m. Both contests will be streamed live on B1G+
Notes
• Junior Alana Richardson scored three goals over the Wolverines' two-win weekend, including the game-winner in their 1-0 overtime win against No. 18 Old Dominion last Sunday (Sept. 3). Richardson also posted her second career multi-goal effort with two markers against UC Davis on Friday (Sept. 1). With three goals on the season, she has already matched her career high; she tallied three goals in both 2021 and 2022.
• Graduate student Isabella Palde also posted two goals in the second half against UC Davis for her first points in maize and blue and her third collegiate multi-goal game. She previously posted back-to-back two-goal games during her junior season at Cornell.
• Freshman Esmée de Willigen scored Michigan's first and game-winning goal at 9:38 against UC Davis for her first collegiate marker. She is the second Wolverine rookie to record their first goal. Freshman Juliette Manzur tallied the Wolverines' first of the 2023 season in the first quarter of the season opener against No. 1 North Carolina.
• Freshman Natalie Millman leads the Wolverines with three assists, contributing to nearly half of U-M's eight goals on the season. Notably, she assisted on Manzur's first-quarter score at UNC and on Richardson's overtime game-winner against Old Dominion.
• Junior/sophomore goalkeeper Caylie McMahon posted two saves en route to her first collegiate complete-game shutout against Old Dominion. McMahon, who previously contributed to four combined shutouts with Anna Spieker last season, owns a 1.23 goals-against average and .792 save percentage through four games. McMahon registered a career-best eight saves against both UNC and Wake Forest over the first weekend, including seven second-half saves against the Tar Heels.
• Davidson is 2-2 this season after splitting each of its first two weekends. The Wildcats defeated Queens 7-1 at home last Friday (Sept. 1) before falling 1-0 at Appalachian State on Sunday (Sept. 3) in their most recent action. Three different Davidson players have scored multiple goals, while Hannah Merritt leads the team with five points. Goalkeeper Cato Roell owns a 1.62 goals-against average and .500 save percentage. Michigan owns a 1-0 all-time series record against Davison, earning a 4-1 win in 2015 in Ann Arbor in the only previous meeting.
• Saint Joseph's enters the weekend with a 3-1 season record after splitting a pair of home games last weekend, falling to Virginia 2-1 last Friday (Sept. 3) and defeating Yale 6-1 on Sunday (Sept. 3). Manu Ghigliotti leads the Hawks in scoring with six goals and two assists already, while goalkeeper Janelle Ward carries a 0.89 goals-against average and .800 save percentage. Michigan is 2-0 all-time against the Hawks after defeating them 3-2 in the 2018 NCAA first round and 4-3 on the road in 2019.
• Junior Abby Tamer will redshirt the 2023 season to train and compete with the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team in its bid to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. Tamer, a 2022 NFHCA All-West Region second team honoree who has accumulated 13 goals and nine assists over 39 games played and two seasons at Michigan, earned her first senior-level international cap and goal in June.
