MANAHAWKIN, N.J. -- University of Michigan seniors Lora Clarke and Anouk Veen were named to the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Team, the organization announced Wednesday (Nov. 15). The duo was listed among 38 total selections, while Michigan was one of just seven programs with multiple participants.
Clarke, who was named to the All-Big Ten first team this season, posted three goals and a team-high nine assists as U-M's primary corner inserter. She scored the Wolverines' game-winning goal in double overtime in the regular-season finale against Michigan State. Clarke has started 64 of 75 total games played at Michigan over the last four years and accumulated 21 career goals and 17 assists. She is one of three Wolverine team captains this season.
Veen, a 2021 NFHCA All-American, has been a mainstay in the Wolverine backfield over the last four seasons and largely has served as field general from the center mid position this year. She is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and appeared in 54 career games with 51 starts -- missing nearly all of last season with injury. A primary component of Michigan's defensive and attack corner units, Veen compiled 11 goals and seven assists. This season, she contributed to a defensive unit that has allowed just 1.13 goals and 8.9 shots per game.
All five NCAA Division I regions are represented on the list of 2023 honorees, representing 30 different institutions. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments and impact on and off the field.
