ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Nebraska on Sunday (Sept. 25) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Prior to the contest, Michigan (5-4-2, 0-2-1 Big Ten) honored seniors Hannah Blake, Lauren Brideau, Claire Dawson, Lily Farkas, Emily Leyson, Katherine McElroy, Margot Ridgeway, Jayde Riviere and Dani Wolfe.
U-M went down early in the eighth minute. A lapse in communication on the back line resulted in Nebraska's Sarah Weber picking up a loose ball and slotting it in as U-M chased a goal.
At the half, the Cornhuskers led U-M in shots at 11-5 and in shots on goal at 4-2. Nebraska (4-4-3, 2-0-1 Big Ten) went on to total 18 shots with six on goal, while Michigan fired eight shots with four on net. NU also earned nine corner kicks to a pair for the Wolverines.
Junior Kacey Lawrence, Wolfe and Blake each totaled a pair of shots for U-M to lead the way. Junior Stephanie Sparkowski start in goal, making three stops, while McElroy played the second half and had a pair of saves.
The Wolverines had a pair of quality chances that were unable to be converted, most notably a sliding effort from Wolfe in the 44th minute and a set-piece chance from Blake that bent over a Cornhusker wall and saved out of bounds.
