The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team (6-10, 1-4 B1G) closes out its regular season on Saturday with a game at 16th-ranked Penn State (9-7, 3-2 B1G).
LAST TIME OUT
Michigan enters play following a 16-9 victory over East Carolina last Saturday (April 21). Overall, nine Wolverines scored in the win: freshman Caitlin Muir (three goals), junior Adriana Pendino (three), graduate student Bianca Brueckner (two), sophomore Chandler Kirby (two), sophomore Molly Garrett (two) and one each from sophomore Nadine Stewart, freshman Maggie Kane, freshman Erin Daly and senior Mae Tarr.
Muir added three assists for a career-high six-point game and her assist mark tied a single-game record for the Wolverines this season.
Michigan's defense allowed limited opportunities for East Carolina, holding the Pirates to 23 shots and only three free-position attempts -- only one of which was converted. The Wolverines also forced eight of the Pirates' 12 turnovers.
Michigan held the upper hand in every team statistical category, including a 38-23 shot count and a 17-10 advantage on draw controls. Kane won a career-high 10 draw controls to lead U-M -- a mark that ties for the program's single-game record.
WOLVERINE BITES
• Junior Adriana Pendino matched her career high of five points against Detroit Mercy, finishing with four goals and one assist.
• In three of Michigan's six victories this season, the Wolverines have held their opponents to four goals or fewer -- Butler (W, 12-2), Canisius (W, 14-3) and Central Michigan (W, 12-4). The two goals allowed against Butler rank third in program history for fewest goals allowed in a game. The exception came in a 9-7 victory over Ohio State on March 17.
• Adriana Pendino has scored three goals or more in a game seven times this season.
• Bianca Brueckner is the only Wolverine to score in all games played this season, tallying one goal in each of the 15 games she has appeared in, including a pair of four-goal games (Detroit, Rutgers). She has played in 15 of 16 games this season and has 31 total points, with 26 goals and five assists.
• Freshman Caitlin Muir has started each of the last 13 games after missing the first three games of the season due to injury.
• Molly Garrett continues to lead Michigan in draw controls this season, winning 48.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
Penn State dropped a non-conference decision to No. 1-ranked Stony Brook, 21-13, last weekend but still jumped up in the rankings.
Senior classmate Maggie Gallagher added three goals of her own to tie her career high while sophomore Kristin Roberto tallied two goals and one assist for a career-best three points. Sophomore Maria Auth and junior Madison Carter each added a pair of goals in the setback.
