ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Second-year head coach Hannah Nielsen announced the 2019 University of Michigan women's lacrosse schedule today (Thursday, Nov. 29). The 2019 slate is highlighted by nine home games at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Michigan enters its sixth season as a varsity program, and Nielsen has put together a tough 2019 schedule for the Wolverines as they will take on seven teams that reached the 2018 NCAA Tournament, including Big Ten Conference foes Maryland (a national semifinalist), Johns Hopkins, Northwestern and Penn State.
"I am excited for our 2019 spring schedule," stated Nielsen. "Our goal was to build a challenging and diverse non-conference schedule to help prepare us for our extremely tough Big Ten schedule. I am excited that we get to take our team out west and am looking forward to returning to Boulder for our matchup against Colorado. The conference schedule is extremely challenging as always, and as a team, we are looking forward to testing ourselves against the best in the country."
The Maize and Blue will start the 2019 season with a road trip to the Golden State where it will take on California and UC Davis on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9.
The Wolverines will open their home slate with two weekend games, first playing host to Central Michigan Friday, Feb. 15, before closing out the weekend Sunday, Feb. 17, against Dartmouth.
Michigan hits the road for the second time of the season when it travels to Colorado to go up against Colorado (Feb. 24) and Denver (Feb. 26), which both made the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Nielsen and her squad will return to Ann Arbor for a four-game home stretch, welcoming Cincinnati (March 3), Kent State (March 8) and 2018 NCAA Tournament team Towson (March 10) before closing out the homestand with its first Big Ten match, against Penn State (March 16).
The Wolverines will make a short road trip to Columbus, Ohio, Friday, March 22, to take on Ohio State in conference action before returning home for a non-conference contest against Niagara (March 25) and a B1G game against Johns Hopkins (March 30).
Michigan opens the month of April on the road at Maryland Saturday, April 6, before honoring its seniors Saturday, April 13, against Rutgers. Finally, the Maize and Blue will conclude its regular season on the road at Northwestern (April 18) and at Detroit Mercy (April 23).
U-M will look to be a top-four team in the conference and compete for the Big Ten Tournament May 3-5 before hoping to make a run in the NCAA Tournament May 10-May 26.
Tickets for the 2019 home schedule will go on sale in December and will be $6 for general admission and $3 for groups of 10 or more. For the most up-to-date information on tickets, sign up for the Michigan Insider email newsletter or visit the women's lacrosse ticket page.
