ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team, behind a goal from junior Francis Atuahene in the 74th minute, downed the Detroit Titans by a 1-0 score on Senior Night Wednesday (Oct. 25) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Prior to the match, the Wolverines (10-4-2) paid homage to the senior trio of Billy Stevens, Ali Jawad, and Tristan Jacob. In the first half, the Wolverines outshot the Titans (6-6-3) by a 6-1 count and owned the majority of quality chances and possession. Freshman Umar Farouk Osman was responsible for wreaking havoc with his high work rate on the wings for U-M, but was unable to find a breakthrough.
Play began to sway the Wolverines' way midway through the second half, as the U-M attack strung together four shots in less than a minute to send a message to the Titan backline.
Minutes later, a try from junior defender Marcello Borges from 25 yards out was spoiled by Detroit goalkeeper Josh Flamme. Atuahene, waiting on the doorstep, finished the play off with his fourth goal of the season and the lone marker of the match.
U-M sprinkled in a few half-chances in the remaining 16 minutes of play, most notably an effort from freshman Mohammed Zakyi inside the area that was pushed high of goal.
The win lifts U-M's home record to an impressive 8-2-1 on the campaign, and the 10 wins on the year are the most since the 2012 season. Head coach Chaka Daley also called on his 12th different starting lineup of the season.

With non-conference play completed, U-M heads to College Park to take on the No. 9 Maryland Terrapins in a vital Big Ten matchup on Sunday (Oct. 29) at 4 p.m. that will be broadcast via BTN. A win for the Wolverines, coupled with a draw in the Indiana vs. Michigan State match would result in U-M capturing its first-ever Big Ten regular season championship.
