Big Ten Tournament: Semifinals
Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Greg Ryan, the University of Michigan women's soccer team reached the 12-win mark for the fourth straight season in 2015. The Wolverines finished the season with a 12-7-2 overall record, including a 6-3-2 record in Big Ten Conference play. U-M continued to enjoy success on its home field, going 9-1 at U-M Soccer Stadium to give the Wolverines a 40-4-3 record in home matches over the past four seasons. In an extremely competitive conference race that was not decided until the final weekend of Big Ten play, the Maize and Blue finished fifth in the regular-season standings and earned the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, where it advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2012.
Team Highlights
Michigan, which was the fifth seed in the Big Ten Tournament, advanced to the semifinals for the first since 2012 before falling 1-0 to eventual Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament champion Penn State.
U-M was 9-1-0 at U-M Soccer Stadium, giving the Wolverines a 40-4-3 record at home over the past four seasons.
The Wolverines' stingy defense continued to be their trademark in 2015, as they posted nine shutouts and allowed just 7.5 shots and 0.95 goals per game. On the flip side, Michigan outshot its opponents a combined, 357-158, on the season and averaged a Big Ten-leading 17 shots per game.
Michigan defeated No. 22 Northwestern, 1-0, on a highlight-reel goal from Corinne Harris in the 35th minute, which was selected No. 8 on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays.
Individual Highlights
After leading the Big Ten with a team-best 12 assists as a redshirt freshman in 2014, redshirt sophomore Ani Sarkisian finished tied for the team lead in points with sophomore Taylor Timko. Sarkisian and Timko each notched 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Sarkisian, who was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman Team last season and has started all 41 games in her career, was selected to the All-Big Ten first team in 2015.
Two players recorded hat tricks in the same season for the first time since 1997 when Ruth Poulin and Kacy Beitel had hat tricks in the same game (Oct. 17, 1997 vs. Illinois). Taylor Timko (Aug. 21, 2015 vs. Eastern Michigan) and Ani Sarkisian (Oct. 11, 2015 vs. Illinois) each notched hat tricks this season.
Senior Corinne Harris was the heartbeat of the Maize and Blue all season. She missed just one game in her Michigan career, playing in 87 games with 66 starts, including all 21 in 2015. She finished the season with three goals and two assists, giving her a total of 22 career assists, which rank fourth all-time at Michigan. Harris was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Five first team for the second straight season, as well as the All-Big Ten and All-Great Lakes Region first team.
Senior Christina Murillo rejoined the Wolverines for the 2015 season after taking the 2014-15 academic year off to train with the Mexican National Team and compete in the FIFA Women's World Cup. Murillo started 78 of 80 career games played at U-M, including all 21 matches this season. She anchored Michigan's back line and took all set pieces for U-M while also leading the team with seven assists. The team captain earned All-Big Ten first team and All-Great Lakes Region second team honors for her efforts.
For the first time in program history, three U-M student-athletes were named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team in the same season -- Corinne Harris, Anna Soccorsi, Taylor Timko.
