KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Junior Corinne Harris and sophomore Nicky Waldeck of the University of Michigan women's soccer team were named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I All-Great Lakes Region second team, the organization announced Wednesday morning (Dec. 3).
Harris and Waldeck, who are both Chicago natives, were among the 34 players selected to the All-Great Lakes Region teams, including 11 chosen for the second team, and both earned the honor for the first time in their careers. The Wolverines have placed at least one player on the All-Region team in each of the last three seasons.
Waldeck and Harris finished the season first and third, respectively, on the team in points, combining for 44 of Michigan's 110 total points.
Waldeck led the Wolverines with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists. Her 12 goals are tied for third in the Big Ten and tied for eighth in program history for goals in a single season. Waldeck's season highlights include her first career hat trick against Nebraska and scoring the game-winning goal against Michigan State with 24 seconds remaining in regulation. Following the hat trick, which was just the eighth in program history, Waldeck was tabbed Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and ESPNW National Women's Soccer Player of the Week. At the conclusion of the regular season, she was selected to the All-Big Ten first team.
Harris, who was recently voted one of three team captains for the 2015 season, tallied 15 points on the season on three goals and nine assists. Her nine assists are tied for third in the Big Ten and give her a total of 20 career assists, which rank tied for fourth in program history. Following the regular season, Harris was named to the All-Big Ten second team and Capital One Academic All-District Five first team.
