PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore/freshman Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lasher) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Oct. 12). Kopmeyer is the first Wolverine to earn the conference Freshman of the Week award, which was introduced for the 2009 campaign.
Kopmeyer recorded seven saves for her third shutout of the season as the Wolverines clashed with Michigan State in a 0-0 stalemate on Sunday (Oct. 11). The Spartan blanking was Kopmeyer's first in conference play.
In her first full season of action, Kopmeyer has posted a 3-3-2 record and is third in the Big Ten with a .825 save percentage and fifth with 52 stops. She earned the starting nod in 2008, but an injury in the first half of the season opener put her on the shelf for the remainder of the season.
The Wolverines continue with their Big Ten schedule on Thursday (Oct. 15) when they take on Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. Michigan will then return home to face Indiana on Sunday (Oct. 18) for a nationally televised contest on the Big Ten Network.
