Gannon Earns Second Straight Big Ten Weekly Honor

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS), a member of the University of Michigan field hockey team, has been named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced today (Monday, Oct. 21).

With Gannon's honor, five Michigan players have earned Big Ten Player of the Week awards this season, and a Wolverine has received the laurel in all but one week, including each of the last four.
Junior forward April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) and junior defender Stephanie Johnson (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) received the league's offensive and defensive awards, respectively, on Sept. 9, senior forward Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) earned the offensive award on Sept. 16 and Sept. 30, sophomore goalkeeper Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) was named defensive player of the week on Oct. 7, and Gannon has taken home the defensive honor in the last two weeks (Oct. 14, Oct. 21).
No. 2 Michigan (14-1, 5-0 Big Ten), currently on a school-record 13-game winning streak, will begin a season-ending four-game road trip this weekend, traveling to State College, Pa., for a pair of matches against nationally ranked opponents. The Wolverines will face No. 6 Penn State in their final Big Ten game of the season on Friday (Oct. 25) at 3 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. meeting Saturday (Oct. 26) with No. 3 Old Dominion. Both matches will be staged at PSU's Bigler Field.
