
Wolverines to Begin B1G Conference Play at No. 12 Johns Hopkins

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team (3-5) will open Big Ten Conference play Saturday (March 21), traveling to face No. 12 Johns Hopkins (5-2) at noon at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Notes
• Michigan faces its fifth consecutive ranked opponent in No. 12 Johns Hopkins and its fourth straight top-15 matchup.
• The Wolverines are 3-11 all-time against the Blue Jays, but enter Saturday riding a two-game win streak in the series, earning victories in 2025 (11-8) and 2024 (10-7).
• U-M held the high-powered Fighting Irish offense seven goals below its season average of 16, giving up just nine goals in the contest. Senior goalie Hunter Taylor made 17 saves, one shy of his career high, including 10 in the first half and seven in the second quarter to keep Michigan within striking distance.
• Nick Roode leads the Michigan offense with 27 points, including 23 goals and four assists. Roode has scored at least two goals in all but one game for the Wolverines and recorded a hat trick in the first five games this season. In week eight, Roode has a .766 shots on goal percentage with 36 of his 47 shots reaching the cage.
• Freshmen Luke Shannehan and Tay Rodriguez have made immediate impacts. Shannehan ranks second on the team with 25 points (18 goals, 7 assists), recording three hat tricks, four multi-goal games and two five-goal performances. He also leads the team in assists. Rodriguez has won 50 faceoffs with a .515 percentage, leads the team with 29 ground balls, and has added a goal and an assist.
• Michigan set a program record to open the 2026 season with 24 goals against Mercyhurst, surpassing the previous mark of 23 (set Feb. 22, 2022, vs. Canisius). The Wolverines jumped out to a 14-1 start and closed the game with 10 straight goals.
• U-M will return home after five consecutive road weeks to host Maryland on Saturday (March 28) at 2 p.m. at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
