ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2025 season, defeating UC Riverside 2-0 on Sunday (Aug. 24) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Quin Rogers shined for Michigan (1-0-1) in the win by scoring two goals in 44 minutes of playing time. The graduate student found the back of the net once in each half and is the first Wolverine to score two goals in a game this season.
As a team, Michigan tallied 16 shots with eight on target while the defense allowed seven attempts from UC Riverside (0-2-0).
Michael Ramirez and Oliver Martin were each credited with an assist on Rogers' second marker. The helper marks Ramirez's first point as a Wolverine after transferring to Michigan from Northwestern before the 2025 season.
In a first half that saw the Wolverines create several quality chances, Shuma Sasaki gave the Wolverines its first penalty kick of the season as he was tackled in the box by a UC Riverside defender in the 44th minute. Rogers stepped up to the spot and did not miss his chance, burying the shot into the top of the net to vault Michigan in front 1-0 just before halftime.
Rogers picked up right where he left off in the second stanza. With the ball at his feet just outside the Highlander penalty box, Rogers unleashed a strike that beat the goalkeeper and doubled Michigan's advantage to 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
The Maize and Blue defense locked down UC Riverside over the remaining 38 minutes, allowing four shots with none of those attempts hitting the target. Michigan maintained control of possession for much of the second half as the Wolverines grabbed their first win of the season.
Next up, Michigan will welcome Creighton to U-M Soccer Stadium for a matchup on Friday (Aug. 29) at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on B1G+.
