COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team came up short against No. 15-ranked Maryland, falling 2-0 on Friday (Oct. 10) at Ludwig Field.
Isaiah Goldson notched a season-high six saves in his 11th start of the season for the Maize and Blue.
The Wolverines tallied seven shots in the loss with Grayson Elmquist leading the way with two shots individually.
Michigan (6-2-3, 2-2-1 Big Ten) had a chance early in the match with a Shuma Sasaki shot that was on target, but Maryland's goalkeeper was able to parry the ball away from danger to keep the game scoreless in the third minute of play.
Behind the stable hands of Goldson and the steady back four, Michigan was able to withstand pressure from the hosts and keep the game scoreless at the halftime whistle.
Maryland (7-0-3, 3-0-2 Big Ten) found the opening goal in the 56th minute after Leon Koehl converted a penalty chance to put the Terrapins up, 1-0.
Maryland added another score in the 72nd minute to double its advantage to 2-0.
Michigan made a late push in the closing minutes of the contest, but the Maryland defense stayed intact as the Terrapins secured the conference win.
Next up, Michigan will travel to Columbus for a rivalry matchup with Ohio State on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at 6 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
