AMES, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team got a goal from Abby Zugay in the 82nd minute to record a 2-2 tie against Iowa State in its penultimate non-conference contest on Thursday evening (Sept. 5) at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

Neither team could get much going over the majority of the first half. Iowa State took advantage of a free kick in the 39th minute, sending a ball into the box that the Cyclones got a head on for a 1-0 lead in the latter stages of the first half.

Michigan put the pressure on Iowa State from the beginning of the second half, pressing the tempo from the start. Avery Peters sent a ball into the box in the 54th minute, finding Jenna Lang who slammed it home for a 1-1 tie. For Lang, it was her third goal of the season as Michigan's change of pace out of the locker room paid off.

Following the Michigan goal, much like the first half, neither team could get much going over the next 20 minutes.

That changed off a corner kick in the 75th minute as Iowa State converted with a header to regain a 2-1 lead.

The Wolverines continued to press offensively, like they had for the majority of the second half. Michigan evened the score at two in the 82nd minute, with Zugay scoring the second goal of her career off an assist from Taylor Brennan and Campbell Jewell.

Michigan held Iowa State off the board over the final eight minutes to preserve the 2-2 tie.

U-M returns home on Sunday (Sept. 8) to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule, hosting Alabama at 1 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
