ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team (1-5-1, 0-0-0 Big Ten) hits the road for its lone contest this week, heading to Penn State to face the No. 12-ranked Nittany Lions (5-1-1, 0-0-0 Big Ten) on Thursday evening (Sept. 12) at 7:30 p.m.
Notes
• U-M is coming off a 1-0-1 week, rallying late for a 2-2 draw at Iowa State (Sept. 5) before recording its first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over No. 24 Alabama (Sept. 8) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
• Michigan is 7-26-8 all-time against Penn State but is 2-1-1 over the Nittany Lions over the last four contests.
• U-M is playing its second straight ranked opponent of the season in No. 12 Penn State. Michigan has 51 wins all-time over teams in the top 25 after getting the 1-0 win over No. 24 Alabama. The Wolverines have faced three teams in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll in No. 13 Notre Dame, No. 16 Xavier and No. 19 Colorado.
• U-M had a trio of players record the first points of their careers last week, with Campbell Jewell and Adi Walick each recording an assist. Jewell assisted on the game-tying goal at Iowa State (Sept. 5), with Walick assisting on the game-winning goal against No. 24 Alabama (Sept. 8). Elle Ervin recorded her first career goal, putting through the Walick cross to seal Michigan's first win of the season.
• U-M is in search of its first road win of the season. Michigan has played road contests at Xavier, Colorado and Iowa State in the non-conference portion of the season.
• Avery Kalitta has started 49 consecutive games in the midfield for U-M. She started the final six games of her freshman season (2021) to kick off the streak, starting in every contest in 2022 and 2023. She is one of three Wolverines, joining Stephanie Sparkowski and Lang, to start all seven games this season.
• Michigan has the weekend off and resumes action next Thursday (Sept. 19) at Minnesota. The Wolverines return to U-M Soccer on Sept. 22 to host Nebraska.
