
Non-Conference Play to Conclude at No. 2 Notre Dame

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team will trek to South Bend, Ind., for a date with the defending NCAA champion and No. 2-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday (March 16) at Notre Dame's Arlotta Stadium. The 2 p.m. matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Notes
• Under head coach Kevin Conry, Michigan is 30-17 in non-conference games. The matchup against the Fighting Irish is U-M's final non-conference contest of the season before Big Ten play.
• The Wolverines enter the week ranked No. 18 in the Inside Lacrosse Media poll and No. 18 in the USILA Coaches Poll. Both of U-M's defeats this season have come against ranked teams, with Virginia now sitting at No. 3 and Harvard at No. 12. The two sides boast a combined record of 11-1.
• The Michigan attack unit of senior Michael Boehm (17, 16a), junior Ryan Cohen (17g, 15a) and graduate student Justin Tiernan (28g, 3a) form one of the best attack trios in the country with 99 points through seven contests. Tiernan leads the country in goals-per-game (4.00) while Boehm is No. 19 in points-per-game (4.71).
• With two assists against the Crimson, Boehm enters the week with 205 career points -- after recently becoming the second Wolverine ever to reach the 200 mark against Delaware (March 2). He is eight points shy of the U-M career scoring record of 213 (Josh Zawada). Boehm is also four goals shy of the program record for career goals (119, Zawada) and five assists from the assist record (94, Zawada)
• Cohen trails Ian King (2014-17) for third place in the career points list by two points. Cohen boasts 73g and 69a for 142 points in his U-M career.
• U-M is No. 11 in the country in scoring offense (15.29 goals/game), No. 6 in assists per game (9.29) and No. 4 in extra-man offense (53 percent) as well as No. 9 in points per game (24.57). The Wolverines are also No. 20 in the country in turnovers per game (15.00) and No. 10 in shooting percentage (34 percent).
• Sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Taylor is No. 21 in the nation in goals-against average (10.31) and is stopping 53 percent of shots faced. Graduate close defender Cathal Roberts is second in the Big Ten and No. 20 nationally in caused turnovers per contest with 1.86/game.
• Senior faceoff man Justin Wietfeldt ranks eighth nationally in faceoff win percentage (63 percent) and No. 4 in the country in ground balls per game (9.43). Over the last four contests, he has won 67-of-85 draws (79 percent) with 47 ground balls.
• The combined record of U-M's future opponents is 28-10. Every opponent, except for Ohio State is ranked in the top 20 of Inside Lacrosse Media poll, with No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Maryland, No. 7 Johns Hopkins and No. 9 Penn State all in the top 10.
• Former Wolverine Jake Bonomi (2020-23) is now a graduate student midfielder for the Fighting Irish.
• The Fighting Irish hold a 5-1 lead in the all-time series, with the U-M victory coming on March 21, 2018, in South Bend. In an 18-8 loss a season ago, Issac Aronson scored twice while six Wolverines had at least one goal.
