
Michigan Comes Up Short Against Marquette

NAPLES, Fla. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team trailed from start to finish in a 14-9 loss to Marquette in the Southwest Florida Shootout on Saturday (Feb. 25) at Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
Michigan (2-2) went down 5-0 early but got on the board with the first marker of the contest at 4:57, when graduate student Peter Thompson and sophomore Aidan Mulholland scoring back-to-back tallies, the latter coming at 3:45 following another Marquette (2-2) goal to close the opening quarter trailing 6-2.
The Golden Eagles stretched their lead to 8-2 in the second quarter before the Wolverines rattled off three-straight tallies, beginning with Mulholland (2:20) on a helper from sophomore Ryan Cohen. Cohen followed with a score of his own nearly 40 seconds later, while senior Josh Zawada closed the half with an extra-man score off a feed from junior Michael Boehm 1:03 to play in the second, closing the first half trailing 8-5.
Zawada's pair of goals gave him 102 in his career, tying former Wolverine great Brent Noseworthy. The record-tying marker came at the 6:12 mark of the fourth quarter off an assist from Boehm that brought the count to 13-9, but the Wolverines could not close the gap.
Freshman goalie Hunter Taylor made his second straight start in goal for the Wolverines, making 13 saves against 14 goals allowed.

U-M's road swing continues next Saturday (March 4), as the Wolverines travel to take on Delaware. Faceoff is slated for noon from Tubby Raymond Stadium.
