NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team trailed by as many as five goals in the second quarter but used a 9-0 run en route to a 16-12 win against No. 19 Delaware on Saturday (March 4) at Tubby Raymond Field. Michigan outscored the Blue Hens 10-3 in the second half to secure victory.
Senior Josh Zawada broke the Michigan program record for goals in a career. He entered the contest with 102 goals and notched a trio on the afternoon, bringing his career total to 105 to top Brent Noseworthy's career number. He eclipsed the mark with a dodge from the wing and pump faked with 11 seconds to go in the opening quarter and later added a pair of scores in the fourth quarter.

Michigan (3-2) also secured the program's sixth win over a ranked team, with the last two coming against the Delaware (3-2).
At 9:31 of the first quarter, freshman Bo Lockwood knotted the contest at 1 with his first collegiate goal. Coming on a man-up opportunity, Zawada was credited with the assist, his first of the day.
After falling behind early, the Wolverines answered with three-straight markers with Lockwood's coming at 9:30, while junior Isaac Aronson registered his first goal of the season at 6:06. Junior Justin Wietfeldt won the ensuing faceoff, resulting in classmate Michael Boehm stretching the lead to 3-1 at 5:59 of the opening stanza.
Delaware inched even with the Wolverines to tie it at 3 before Zawada's history-making marker came with 11 seconds to go in the quarter as U-M led 4-3 after one.
The Blue Hens then went on a 6-0 run, building up a 9-4 lead with 2:53 to play in the second quarter. U-M then answered with a 9-0 run from the 2:43 mark of the second to the 32-second mark of the third to give the Wolverines a 13-9 lead.
The Wolverines' 9-0 run, the largest versus a ranked team in program history, featured goals from five different players with graduate student Peter Thompson, Boehm and sophomore Ryan Cohen scoring twice over the stretch.
The two sides alternated goals for the entirety of the fourth, with Zawada notching his second (11:49) and third (5:57) of the contest as the Wolverines led 16-12. For the quarter, U-M outscored the Blue Hens 7-1.
Junior goalie Shane Carr entered at the start of the second half and made three saves in the third quarter, and six overall against three goals allowed for a save percentage of .670.
The Wolverine attack unit of Zawada (three goals, three assists), Boehm (3G), and Cohen (2G, 4A) totaled 15 points on the afternoon. U-M won the faceoff battle 16-13, with Wietfeldt winning nine of 14 draws to go along with seven ground balls.
Michigan wraps up a three-game road trip next Saturday (March 11) when they take on Harvard in Cambridge, Mass. The game is scheduled for noon and the contest wll be streamed live on ESPN+
