ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against No. 19-ranked Colorado on Thursday night (Sept. 8) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The match began with back-and-forth action. In the 27th minute, it was senior Lily Farkas who scored for the Wolverines to end the stalemate. The goal was assisted by graduate students Margot Ridgeway and Meredith Haakenson.
Ridgeway played the ball out of the back and found Haakenson in the center of the pitch. She enjoyed space in the central area before finding Farkas 25 yards out. The Michigan markswoman then finished lower-right from the top-left side of the box.
The goal for Farkas, her fourth of the season, ties her for second on the team in with teammate Kacey Lawrence.
Michigan (4-2-1) trailed Colorado (5-0-2) in shooting (7-6) and saves (3-0) in the first half; however, the Wolverines led in shots on goal by a margin of four.
The second half kicked off with more ping-pong action, with the Wolverines outshooting the Buffaloes 10-8 in the period. U-M had a golden chance in the 59th, as junior Sammi Woods played a service to senior Dani Wolfe at the top-left of the six. With the goalkeeper hugging her near post, Wolfe's shot slid across the mouth of goal and went narrowly wide of the right post.
Colorado evened the score after a foul in the box. CU's Civana Kuhlman stepped to the spot and put the penalty kick in the bacl of the net in the 77th minute.
Michigan's final chance of the night came in the 85th minute, when junior Sarah Bridenstine put a short cross in from the right flank to the top of the six. The lofted ball was headed by Woods but it hit the outside of the net.
