Anna Spieker (Oct. 13)
NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week -- Senior goalkeeper Anna Spieker earned the first national weekly honor of her career in recognition of her performance in U-M's home weekend sweep against No. 6 Northwestern and No. 3 Louisville. Spieker earned a season-high nine saves against the Wildcats and added three more against Louisville while allowing just two goals -- both on opposing penalty corners. Spieker, a 2020-21 NFHCA Second Team All-American, ranks sixth nationally with a 0.88 goals-against average. » NFHCA Release
Anna Spieker (Oct. 12)
Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week -- Senior Anna Spieker was named one of two Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honorees after posting 12 saves and just two goals allowed in U-M's home weekend against No. 6 Northwestern (2-1 2OT, Oct. 8) and No. 3 Louisville (2-1, Oct. 10). She tallied a season-best nine stops against the Wildcats, including four in the last 30 seconds of regulation. She shares the weekly award with Rutgers' Gianna Glatz. » Big Ten Release
Sofia Southam (Sept. 28)
Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week -- Senior Sofia Southam, who leads the nation in scoring this season, tacked on three more goals over the Wolverines' weekend home sweep against No. 25 Michigan State and No. 23 Kent State (Sept. 24-26). She scored both U-M goals in its 2-1 win over KSU, converting twice on second-half corners, including the game-winner at the 52:51 mark. She also scored in the second half against MSU on Friday. Southam has scored at least one goal in all of her six appearances. She boasts a nation's 13 goals and 2.17 goals-per-game average. » Big Ten Release
Halle O'Neill (Sept. 1)
NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week -- Fifth-year senior Halle O'Neill garnered the second national weekly award of her career in recognition of her efforts in Michigan's 2-0 opening weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge . O'Neill, who also earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, led the Wolverines' defensive unit in wins against No. 1 North Carolina (3-2) and No. 11 Wake Forest (2-0) as U-M averaged one goal, eight shots and 2.5 penalty corners against. O'Neill, U-M's field general at center mid and a primary contributor on both the attack and defensive corner units, also scored a goal in the Wolverines' shutout win against Wake. » NFHCA Release
Halle O'Neill (Aug. 30)
Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week -- Fifth-year senior Halle O'Neill headlined the Wolverines' defensive efforts en route to a perfect ACC/Big Ten Challenge last weekend (Aug. 27-29), with wins against No. 1 North Carolina (3-2) and No. 11 Wake Forest (2-0). Michigan held its ranked opposition to just two goals, 18 total shots -- seven on goal -- and five penalty corners and picked up its first shutout of the season against the Demon Deacons. As the Wolverines' center midfielder, O'Neill neutralized UNC's Erin Matson, the two-time NFHCA National Player of the Year, in the season opener. Halle O'Neill, Kathryn Peterson, Anna Spieker (Aug. 25)
Big Ten Preseason Watch List -- Seniors Halle O'Neill, Kathryn Peterson and Anna Spieker were selected as Michigan's representatives on the Big Ten's preseason Players to Watch list. All three were NFHCA All-Americans last season for the first time in their careers. O'Neill is a first team All-American, who has started 80 games over the last four seasons and is the Wolverines' field general at center midfield. Peterson garnered third team All-America honors at midfield in 2020-21; she owns 13 career goals and 15 assists and is the Wolverines' primary insert on the attack-corner unit. Spieker, a second team All-American, ranked third nationally with both a .836 save percentage and 0.60 goals-against average last season. » Big Ten Release
