BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team placed a program-record 20 Wolverines on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, the organization announced on Tuesday (Feb. 8).
The National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year. Michigan's honorees include Katie Anderson, Nina Apoola, Katie Begley, Bailey Bowman, Serena Brimacombe, Katelyn Clarke, Tina D'Anjolell, Gillian Dumont, Rosie Hope, Kate McLaughlin, Caylie McMahon, Pilar Oliveros, Kathryn Peterson, Sarah Pyrtek, Lindsey Stagg, Abby Tamer, Emma Tamer, Claire Taylor, Emmy Tran and Anouk Veen.
Peterson, a neuroscience major, was named to the NFHCA Academic Squad for the fourth time in her career, while Begley and Emma Tamer each earned the distinction for the third time.
It is the second straight year that Michigan boasted a program-high number of honorees. Last season, 14 Wolverines earned the NFHCA academic accolade. Michigan has placed at least nine individuals on the national academic team in each of the last five seasons. Nineteen Wolverines previously were honored this year with Academic All-Big Ten distinction.
The NFHCA will announce three more Division I academic awards this spring -- the Scholars of Distinction will be announced on Feb. 15, while and the National Academic Team Awards will be released on Feb. 21. The NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete will be announced on Feb. 23.
The Wolverines posted a stellar 16-5 record in 2021, rose to the nation's No. 1 ranking for the first time in program history and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
