LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team earned its second consecutive United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association (USMC/AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season, the organizations announced Monday (July 19).
Michigan earned the Team Academic Award for the first time in program history following the 2019-20 season. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. In total, 243 programs at the NCAA Division I level earned the award.
"We are extremely proud of our team for being recognized with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award," said head coach Mark Rosen. "The standard for this award is extremely high, and for our team to achieve at such a high level at an institution as rigorous as the University of Michigan is a great accomplishment. It is even more impressive considering all of the challenges the COVID pandemic placed on our student-athletes this past year."
The Wolverines placed eight individuals on the 2020 Fall Academic All-Big Ten team, while junior Paige Jones earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors from the conference this spring.
