ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior Marc Ybarra of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region first team as well as the CoSIDA Academic All-American third team, the organizations announced Friday (Dec. 10).
Ybarra is a two-time all-region selection, earning third-team honors in 2019 and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree, garnering a second-team nod in the spring of 2021.
Ybarra, who will graduate from the Ross School of Business, is the only Michigan player to appear in and start all 18 matches in the 2021 season, scoring three goals -- including the overtime game-winner at Oakland -- and adding two assists. Ybarra was named first team All-Big Ten on Nov. 5 and will close out his career as the Michigan all-time leader in games played (91) and games started (90), while ranking second all-time with 24 career assists.
Ybarra was a finalist for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. To be eligible for Academic All-America, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in his second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
