COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team trailed by only one heading into the second half but was outscored 6-3 in the final quarters, coming up short by a 10-7 scoreline against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday (April 16) at Ohio Stadium.
Michigan was led early by sophomore Patrick Tracy, who added an empty-net goal off a failed OSU clear, and dished out an assist to senior Peter Kraus to get the Wolverines going on the scoreboard in the first quarter. Sophomore Chase Young also scored his second career goal, the first coming last week against Rutgers in back-to-back games, with less than two minutes remaining to give Michigan a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Ohio State notched two goals in the second quarter, including one with 1:19 remaining in the half for Johnny Pearson's second of the afternoon to put the Buckeyes up 4-3 heading into the half. Michigan was held scoreless in the second but continued to pressure the Buckeyes taking six of its 14 first-half shots.
Senior/junior goalie Gerald Logan came out on fire in the first half, totaling 10 saves in the first two quarters to keep the Wolverines within striking distance. Michigan and Ohio State had a near even mark at the faceoff dot, where senior Brad Lott went 5-for-9 in the opening half of play.
In the second half, the Buckeyes came out with two straight goals to extend its lead to 6-3 early in the third. After some back and forth play, sophomore Sean McCanna stopped the Buckeye run with a hammer from up top with 1:34 left in the third quarter.
Trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter, freshman Decker Curran notched a goal with a little less than 14 minutes remaining. The Buckeyes the rattled off four goals within the next 10 minutes to take a five-goal lead, 10-5. U-M added goals from McCanna and senior Mike Hernandez in the final minutes of play to bring tally to its final of 10-7.
In the second half, U-M lost the ground ball margin 15-11 and struggled to maintain possession as OSU's faceoff man Jake Withers won 9-of-12 chanced at the dot.

U-M returns home on Saturday (April 23) to host the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays -- current ranked No. 17 --at 5 p.m. inside Michigan Stadium. The matchup will be broadcast live via the Big Ten Network.
For the fourth straight game, U-M was without leading scorer Kyle Jackson due to injury.
Young marked his second goal of his career after scoring his first last week against Rutgers.
Logan's 19 saves mark the fourth time this season he has eclipsed the 15-save plateau on the year.
