
U-M to Cap Homestand Tuesday vs. Oakland in Zero-Waste Game

The University of Michigan baseball team (24-16) faces Oakland University (6-25) on Tuesday afternoon (April 21) at 4 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be broadcast on WCBN Radio. Michigan is coming off sweeping Purdue in a three-game Big Ten series this past weekend, moving to 9-6 in conference play.
SCOUTING OAKLAND -- The Golden Grizzlies (6-25) lost all three games to Wright State in a Horizon League series this past weekend. Robby Enslen and Trent Drumheller had three hits apiece for Oakland in an 8-3, 11-inning loss on Sunday. Enslen leads OU with a .344 batting average while Mike Brosseau has three home runs on the year. Aaron Dehn sports a 4.10 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched.
SERIES VS. OAKLAND -- Michigan has a 27-3 series advantage on Oakland heading into Tuesday's matchup. The two teams played twice in 2014 with the Wolverines winning 3-1 on April 29 and 7-4 on May 7. Carmen Benedetti drove in four runs with a double and a home run in the second meeting while Cam Wysocki went five innings and allowed just two hits with no runs in the win.
BIG TEN LEADERS -- The Wolverines lead the Big Ten in batting average (.302), on-base percentage (.386) and doubles (84) heading into Tuesday's games. On the mound, U-M is seventh in ERA (3.62) and is third in strikeouts (305). Senior Jackson Glines and sophomore Carmen Benedetti are 1-2 in the league in batting average. Glines is hitting .399 while Benedetti is at .378. Benedetti leads the league in hits (56) and RBI (44) and is tied for the lead in doubles with 15. Junior Jacob Cronenworth is third in the Big Ten in hits (54), is tied for the lead in runs scored (44) and is tied for third in walks (24). Sophomore Brett Adcock is tied for fourth in strikeouts (53).
BENEDETTI DOES IT ALL IN PURDUE FINALE -- Sophomore Carmen Benedetti excelled at the plate and on the mound in Michigan's 7-5 win over Purdue on April 18. He went 3-for-5 with four RBI at the plate. Benedetti's run-scoring double in the first got the Wolverines on the board. He then doubled in the third to score Jackson Glines. His groundout in the fifth scored a run and a double in the seventh scored Travis Maezes. Then with runners on first and second and one out for Purdue in the ninth, Benedetti came in to pitch and struck out the final two Boilermakers to earn his first career save. In the series, he was 8-for-13 with three doubles and six RBI and made two appearances on the mound on Saturday. The performance helped Benedetti earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, his first career conference award.
CRONENWORTH HAVING A BLAST -- Junior Jacob Cronenworth belted Michigan's team leading fifth home run, a shot to straightaway centerfield, in the second inning of U-M's 7-0 win over Purdue on April 18. It was part of a 4-for-5 day as he scored three runs and drove in a pair. Cronenworth also struck out seven in the series opener, a 9-3 win for the Maize and Blue.
GLINES WEARING OUT WALLS -- Senior Jackson Glines has 15 extra-base hits this season with five of those (four doubles and a triple) coming in the weekend series against Purdue (April 17-18). He was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple in the 7-0 win in game one on Saturday. He then had a pair of doubles in the 7-5 win in Saturday's nightcap. Glines is hitting .399 on the season, which leads the Big Ten.
NUTOF GETS CAREER HIGH IN PURDUE SHUTOUT -- Freshman Ryan Nutof pitched a career-high 7.2 innings and allowed just two hits and no runs with five strikeouts and two walks in a 7-0 win over Purdue on April 18. At one point, Nutof retired 13 Boilermakers in a row and allowed just two runners to reach second base. Nutof has pitched into the eighth inning in both home games he has pitched this season. Nutof was named the co-Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after that outing.
UP NEXT -- Michigan heads to Minnesota for its final Big Ten road series of the season this Friday through Sunday (April 24-26). Friday's game begins at 6:35 p.m. CDT with Saturday's contest scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT. Sunday's series finale is at 12:05 p.m. CDT.
