ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Juniors Jacob Cronenworth and Cody Bruder each had home runs in a four-run first as the University of Michigan baseball team won its third game in a row in a 7-3 victory over Toledo Tuesday afternoon (March 31) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Cronenworth led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot to right field. Senior Jackson Glines walked and went to scored on sophomore Carmen Benedetti's double. Bruder brought Glines home with a two-run shot over the wall in left as the Maize and Blue took the 4-0 lead. Michigan added two runs in the second on Glines' fielder's choice and Bruder's bases-loaded walk.
Toledo scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth frames. Senior/junior Matt Ogden got out of a bases-loaded jam in the second, inducing a flyout. Ogden went five-plus innings, allowing eight hits with two earned run and five strikeouts to pick up the win. Sophomore Mac Lozer got a big strikeout to end the sixth when Toledo had second and third and two out.
The Wolverines added insurance in the eighth as Glines walked with the bases loaded, scoring senior Eric Jacobson. Freshman Bryan Pall came in for the ninth, shutting down the Rockets as Michigan moved its home record to 4-1 on the year.
Freshman Jake Bivens had three hits on the day, while Cronenworth added two. Bruder drove in three runs, and Glines brought in a pair.
The Wolverines end their six-game homestand tomorrow (Wednesday, April 1) against Central Michigan. First pitch at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, is set for 4 p.m.
