ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team jumped on Maryland with a five-run first as the Wolverines took the weekend series from the Terrapins with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon (March 29) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.

Sophomore Brett Adcock got out of trouble in the first by striking out the side. Michigan's bats then warmed up in the bottom of the inning. Junior Jacob Cronenworth led off the frame with a bunt single. Freshman Jake Bivens walked, and senior Jackson Glines singled to bring in Cronenworth for the game's first run. Sophomore Carmen Benedetti singled in the gap in left, scoring Bivens for a 2-0 advantage. After junior Cody Bruder reached on a bunt single, Maryland changed pitchers, and senior Kyle Jusick greeted the Terp reliever with a three-run double to right, giving the Maize and Blue the 5-0 lead.

Maryland scored its runs in the third inning on back-to-back singles from Nick Cieri and Jose Cuas, but a popout to short turned into a double play, ending the Maryland threat. The Wolverine pitchers -- Adcock and freshmen Jayce Vancena and Bryan Pall -- shut out the Terps from there. Vancena earned the win, going four innings and not allowing a run on four hits with two strikeouts. Pall earned his first career save, striking out two batters in an inning's work.

Glines had two hits for the Maize and Blue on the day, while Jusick drove in three runs with the first-inning double.

Michigan hosts Toledo in a midweek contest Tuesday afternoon (March 31) at 4 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. [ Tickets ]
