
Blue Clinches World Series Title with Offensive Onslaught

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Harrison Wenson (Farmington Hills, Mich./U of D Jesuit) went 3-for-3 with two home runs, and freshman Jake Bivens (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) had three hits as the Blue team clinched the series win with a 20-2 victory over Maize in game two of the Maize and Blue World Series Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
The Blue team put up 10 runs in the first inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from senior Kyle Jusick (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern), a two-run single from Bivens and junior Travis Maezes' (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) two-run double. Wenson homered to lead off the second inning for the Blue team an 11-0 lead. The Maize scored a pair of runs in the top of the third on run-scoring singles from freshman Drew Lugbauer (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) and fifth-year senior Kendall Patrick (Mitchell, S.D./Blackhawk College).
Jusick doubled in Bivens in the bottom of the third. Wenson then belted his second home run of the day, a three-run shot. Sophomore Johnny Slater (Southfield, Mich./Southfield Lathrup) made it 16-2 with a single that scored senior Eric Jacobson (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius).
The Blue team wrapped up the scoring in the fifth with a two-run single by sophomore/freshman TJ Shook (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./U of D Jesuit) and a two-run home run into the teeth of the wind by junior Jacob Cronenworth (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair).
Freshman Michael Hendrickson (Saline, Mich./Saline) earned the win on the mound, striking out four in three innings of work. Classmate Ryan Nutof (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) picked up the save. He struck out three in three innings of relief.
The Maize and Blue World Series concludes Sunday afternoon (Oct. 19) at 1 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
