PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- After leading the No. 21-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team to the tournament title at the ASU Sheraton Tournament and earning MVP honors this past weekend (Fri-Sat., Sept. 17-18), junior outside hitter Alex Hunt (Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday (Sept. 20) for the first time in her career. She is the first Wolverine to earn the weekly honor this year.
Hunt went for at least 20 kills in all three matches at Arizona State, averaging 5.67 kills per set on a .488 attack percentage and accounting for 35 percent of U-M's offense. In a 3-1 win over host Arizona State (Sept. 17), Hunt put down 22 kills on just 35 attempts to go along with nine digs and a service ace.
Her dominance continued on Saturday (Sept. 18) as she racked up 23 kills, eight digs and three blocks to lead the Wolverines to a 3-1 decision over Utah in the morning match. In the tournament finale against Pacific, Hunt tallied a career-best 29.5 points with 23 kills, four service aces, four blocks and four kills to earn all-tournament honors for the fourth time this season.
The Wolverines return home to kick off the Big Ten Conference schedule next weekend (Fri-Sat., Sept. 24-25), hosting Iowa on Friday and Minnesota on Saturday at Cliff Keen Arena. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
