PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan freshman field hockey forward Rachael Mack (Bromsgrove, England/Bromsgrove School) was named the Big Ten Conference's Freshman of the Week today (Monday, Oct. 18). She earns the freshman laurel for the fourth time this year.
Mack had three goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Maize and Blue defeated Northwestern, 4-3, last Friday (Oct. 15) in a battle of conference unbeatens at Ocker Field. Mack scored two first-half goals, both off assists from redshirt senior Paige Laytos (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), to give U-M a 2-1 lead. Then in overtime, Mack finished a 3-on-1 break to keep the Wolverines with an unblemished conference record.
On the season, Mack leads Michigan and is fourth in the Big Ten with 12 goals, while her 26 points are also tops on the team.
Mack also was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 13, Sept. 20, and Oct. 11, and was tabbed Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13.
Michigan hosts its final two regular-season home games this weekend at Ocker Field. The Maize and Blue faces Ohio State in a key Big Ten matchup Friday (Oct. 22) at 3 p.m. before taking on UC Davis on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 11 a.m.
