
Fetter Named to All-Mideast Region First Team

ATHENS, Ohio-- University of Michigan senior baseball pitcher Chris Fetter(Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS) was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Mideast Region First Team for the second consecutive season in an announcement made by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday afternoon (June 17).
Fetter, a ninth-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres, adds to his list of postseason honors after earning his second straight first team All-Big Ten honor this season and fourth overall all-conference accolade. Heposted a 7-3 record in 13 appearances while striking out 103 batters and allowing just 17 walks in his final year for the Wolverines. His 3.26 earned run average led Wolverine starting pitchers and ranked in the top 10 of all Big Ten hurlers. Fetter posted three complete games, including a career-best, 13-strikeout performance versus Indiana. He most recently was honored with a spot on Ping!Baseball's honorable mention team (June 5).
Fetter ranks fourth on U-M's single-season strikeout list and became the fourth pitcher in Wolverine history to fan more than 100 batters in a season. Fetter is tops on the list of U-M right-handed pitchers, finishing his career with 281 strikeouts to rank third on U-M's career strikeout list, just seven behind career leader Jim Burton (288, 1969-71). With a win in his final start in the Maize and Blue, Fetter moved to 28-10 to rank third on U-M's career win list, snapping his tie with Steve Howe (27 wins, 1977-79).
