PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior goalkeeper Beth Riley (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area HS) of the University of Michigan field hockey team was named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 10) for her part in Michigan's back-to-back wins against ranked opponents last week. It is Riley's second career Big Ten weekly recognition.

Riley is the second Wolverine to earn conference weekly recognition this season, adding to senior/junior Katie Morris' (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) offensive distinction on Sept. 12. Riley also nabbed Player of the Week honors during the 2003 season after allowing no goals in three consecutive U-M victories -- against Central Michigan, Michigan State and Hofstra.
Riley and the Wolverines will hit the road for a Big Ten Conference match against Northwestern next Sunday (Oct. 16) in Evanston, Ill. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CDT at the Wildcats' Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex.
