Koman Gains Second Preseason All-America Selection

Koman led the Wolverines in many hitting categories as a sophomore in 2001, including hits (75), doubles (19), homers (14), runs batted in (60), game-winning RBI (9), total bases (140), batting average (.383), slugging percentage (.714) and on-base percentage (.466).
Koman hit .467 (7-for-15) in Big Ten Tournament action with homers vs. Ohio State and Penn State and was 3-for-3 in the 3-2 loss to Minnesota in the championship game.
A second team All-Big Ten selection in 2001, Koman continued his 2001 success last summer by earning a starting all-star berth for the Concord (N.H.) Quarry Dogs in the New England Baseball League.
Koman, who won the Bill Freehan Award as Michigan's top hitter (.383) in 2001, has a .335 career batting average (126-for-376) with 14 homers and 87 RBI in his 104 starts as a Wolverine.
Michigan opens the 2002 season by facing Oregon State (Feb. 22) in tournament action in Riverside, Calif. The Wolverines are scheduled to play nine games on the spring break trip to California (Feb. 22-March 3).
