HOUSTON, Texas -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team battled back in the first half to tie the game against No. 5 Harvard, but the Crimson surged in the second half to capture a 17-7 victory on Saturday afternoon (March 7) in a neutral-site contest at Kincaid High School.
Harvard (5-0) got out to a fast start with a pair of goals, but the Wolverines (3-4) battled to keep it close as they trailed 4-2 going into the second quarter. U-M came out of the quarter break to score three straight goals from Alex Gatto, Kade Goldberg and Carson Billig to take a 5-4 advantage. However, Michigan was unable to maintain pace, as Harvard outscored Michigan 10-2 in the second half to secure the victory.

Harvard scored a pair to start the game, but Jenkins cut the lead to one, wrapping around the cage and going top-shelf far side with 11:08 remaining in the first quarter. The Crimson responded immediately with its third of the game, and Michigan once again came within one on a Gatto goal from distance. With just under three minutes to play in the opening quarter, Harvard added one more goal to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
Michigan regrouped in the second stanza as Gatto netted his second and Goldberg came off a pick and roll to score a goal and knot the score at 4-4 off a pass from Jenkins. Billig picked up the ball on the ensuing draw and ran it straight down the lane into the back of the cage to give U-M a 5-4 advantage with 12:37 remaining in the half.
The Crimson finished out the half on a 3-0 run to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break.
Michigan dominated the faceoff 10-5 in the first half, as Weller won five and Rodriguez won three.
