
Stein Nets Game-Winner in OT to Upset No. 6 BC at Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Senior Ceci Stein reversed her defender and fired a shot into the far-right corner of the cage lift the No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team a 10-9 double-overtime win over No. 6 Boston College in the Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 21) at BT Harvey Stadium on the campus of Morehouse College.
The game against the Eagles (0-3) featured three ties and three lead changes, with Michigan (3-1) victorious for the first time in program history over Boston College. U-M took the lead through the first two quarters before BC came back to take the lead in the third.
The contest proved to be a defensive battle in the final 15 minutes of regulation as Elizabeth Johnson made three saves and Boston College's goalkeeper made two to send the game into overtime. Johnson came up huge once again for the Wolverines in the overtime periods with a total of three saves before Stein scored the game-winner with four seconds left on the clock in the second overtime period.
Junior Emma Bradbury led the Michigan offense with four points on the day, including a hat trick and one assist, while Caroline Byrd and Calli Norris each scored a pair of goals.
Sophomore Emma Burke paced the Wolverines on the draw with four wins, while Norris won two. Defensively, Grace Callahan picked up three ground balls and had one caused turnover, and Johnson made 12 stops in the cage.
The Wolverines scored the first two goals of the game to get the early advantage, but BC responded, outscoring Michigan 2-1 in the final eight minutes of the quarter to close the gap on U-M to 3-2.
Michigan kept the high-powered Eagles offense off the board for the entire second quarter and tacked on two more goals of its own to take a 5-2 advantage into the halftime break.
U-M outshot Boston College 22-8 in the first half, with 10 shots on goal, and Bradbury netted two for the Maize and Blue.
Following the halftime break, Boston College surged back as it scored four straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 with 8:40 left in the third stanza. Norris answered on the ensuing draw as she went top shelf to swing the lead back to the Wolverines just 30 seconds later. The Eagles had a response with a pair of their own to take an 8-7 lead into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
Michigan battled back from the two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter with two goals from Bradbury and Byrd to send the game into overtime with the game deadlocked at nine.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first overtime period, with Johnson coming up with one big save to keep the Eagles off the board. With just seven seconds on the clock in the second overtime period, Peyton Shreves passed the ball off to Stein, who worked her defender far left, came back right and dodged to the left one final time to rip a shot into the top-right corner to win the game.
U-M opens its 2026 home schedule next Saturday (Feb. 28), when it hosts Yale at 1 p.m. at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The game is set to be streamed live on B1G+.
