
Wolverines Cap Regular Season with Senior Day Win over Denison

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team defeated Denison, 202-92, Saturday afternoon (Jan. 31) at Canham Natatorium.
William Savarese won the 1000-yard freestyle by nearly nine full seconds as the sole Wolverine to compete, with a 9:10.63.
Colin Geer, Ole Eidam, and Lorne Wigginton took the three podium spots in the 200-yard freestyle, all finishing within half a second of each other.
Tyler Ray finished almost 10 seconds in front of the next finisher in the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:40.62, smashing the NCAA qualifying time of 1:43.79.
Antoine Sauve was the sole sub-0:20 finisher in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a 19:94, and propelled the Wolverines to a 111-38 lead headed into intermission.
Jack Wilkening and Inbar Danziger both swam the 200-yard backstroke in under a 1:50, both finishing six seconds faster than the first Big Red opponent.
All four Wolverines took the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle, led by Suave's 4:20.96, beating the closest Denison swimmer by 15 seconds.
Eitan Ben-Shitrit swam a 1:45.02 in the 200-yard IM, the only Wolverine swimmer in the event. He won by nine seconds.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tyler Ray, Eidam, Geer, and Wilkening swam a 1:16, winning by four seconds, and ending the afternoon at Canham Natatorium.
Next up, U-M will travel to Madison, Wis., for the Big Ten Championships, held from Feb. 25-28.
