MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team tallied 116 points to lead the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
Michigan got the meet off to a winning start in record fashion. The team of Jack Wilkening, Luka Mladenovic, Tyler Ray and Ole Eidam closed strong in a tight race to win the 200-yard medley relay with a new program-standard time of 1:21.99. The victory marked the Maize and Blue's first title in the event since 2015 and its 13th overall.
Following the team diving exhibition event, Michigan broke another school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 6:09.36. The quartet of Antoine Sauve, Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Colin Geer and Lorne Wigginton combined to place fourth in a fast race that saw Ohio State take the event title.
Michigan will return to the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center on Thursday (Feb. 26) for the second day of the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Preliminaries are scheduled for 10 a.m. CT, with finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT.
