
Wolverines to Open Big Ten Action at Minnesota

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (3-0, 0-0 B1G) will open Big Ten Conference action Saturday (Jan. 17) when it travels to No. 20 Minnesota (2-1, 0-0 B1G) for a 4 p.m. CT meet at Maturi Pavilion.

• Michigan enters week three of the season as the No. 5-ranked team in the nation and the No. 1 beam team in the country. The Wolverines also rank inside the top five on the uneven bars, coming in at No. 4 -- while ranking 18th on floor and 19th on vault. Individually, Carly Bauman ties for sixth nationally on the uneven bars and 10th on the beam, while Kayli Boozer, Ava Jordan and Quincy Walters all tie for second nationally on beam, and Sophia Diaz ties for sixth nationally on uneven bars.
• In week one of the season, Michigan broke the program beam record with a 49.650 at the Sprouts Farmers Collegiate Quad. The score broke the previous program-best 49.625 set in the 2023 season. U-M put up back-to-back 9.950s behind collegiate debuts from Walters and Jordan. Boozer recorded Michigan's third 9.950 of the rotation before Bauman anchored with a 9.925.
• Three Wolverines made their debuts in the opening week as senior Lily Clapper competed on both vault and uneven bars, while both Myli Lew and Walters did their first routines in Maize and Blue. Finally, Jordan made her beam debut after competing on just vault and uneven bars as a sophomore.
• The Wolverines took home two Big Ten awards following their opening weekend as Walters was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Bauman was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week.
• Walters earned a share of the beam and floor titles, the only two events in which she competed in her collegiate debut, as she scored a 9.950 on the beam and a 9.875 on the floor with a stuck landing on her first pass. The Southlake, Texas, native heads into week three of the season tied for second nationally.
• Bauman earned her third Big Ten Specialist of the Week honor of her career after she tied for fourth on the beam and tied for second on the uneven bars with matching 9.925s, while also tying for third overall on the floor with a 9.850. The graduate student enters week three tied for sixth nationally on the uneven bars and 10th on the beam.
• The Wolverines are in their 50th season as a program in the 2026 campaign. Since becoming a program in 1976, Michigan has won 27 Big Ten titles, eight regular-season Big Ten titles and one national championship in 2021. In its 50 seasons, U-M has had 212 All-American citations from 53 athletes. The Wolverines have had 17 AAI Award finalists and four winners including back-to-back winners in Natalie Wojcik and Sierra Brooks. Michigan broke the 198-barrier on 12 occasions with a team-high score of 198.525 in 2022. U-M has produced 114 individual Big Ten champions and has had 15 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year nods.
• The Wolverines will open their home season at Crisler Center Saturday (Jan. 24) when they host Iowa for their 10th annual Flip for Chip meet at 3:45 p.m. on B1G+.
