ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team stifled Youngstown State, 2-0, behind a combined shutout from Sophie Homan and Allison Karpovich on Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon at U-M Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Josie Owen-Kren added her first career goal, and Elle Ervin scored her team-high fourth of the season in the Wolverines' win.
Owen-Kren's goal at the seven-minute mark put U-M (3-4) up 1-0 after the Penguins (1-6) failed to possess the ball in their offensive third for the first 24 minutes of the game. The sophomore's first career goal was one of 29 total shots on the match for the Maize and Blue, the most in a game since 2022.
Michigan also logged its second shutout of the season, leaning on defender Campbell Jewell, who played the full 90 minutes for the third time in 2025.Â
The offensive onslaught had a season-high 17 shots on goal, led by the Wolverines' season-shot leader Ervin, who ended the match with four shots on-target. Her 55th-minute score put the game out of reach for the Penguins, who could only muster four shots on frame in the final 45 minutes.
Michigan has a four-day break before returning to the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday (Sept. 12) to take on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. The game will air live on B1G+.
