
Wolverines Ride Sasaki’s Quick Goal to Victory over Bowling Green

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team used a first-half goal by Shuma Sasaki to defeat Bowling Green, 1-0, on Monday (Sept. 1) at U-M Soccer Stadium. The result marks the third straight victory for U-M in an undefeated four-game homestand.
Sasaki's goal was his second of the season, with Matthew Fisher notching his second assist of the season on the tally.
The Michigan defense was stout in the shutout win, conceding only two shot attempts, neither of which hit the target. On offense, the Maize and Blue tallied 13 shots and drew a season-high nine corners.
Sasaki got the Wolverines off to another quick start in the seventh minute as he dribbled into the penalty box on the left side, and took a shot that deflected off a Bowling Green defender and into the back of the net to put Michigan up, 1-0.
Bowling Green (1-2-1) appeared to have equalized in the 36th minute, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling from the official.
In the second half, Michigan (3-0-1) took control of the match with nine shots and several scoring chances in the final 45 minutes.
Next up, Michigan will hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Rochester, Mich., to take on local foe Oakland on Friday (Sept. 5) at 7 p.m.
