ANN ARBOR, Mich. --Â Ryan Cohen, Pace Billings and Aidan Mulholland were selected to represent the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team on the All-Big Ten teams, the conference announced Wednesday (April 23) afternoon. Cohen and Billings earned first team honors while Mulholland nabbed a spot on the second team.
Cohen, who was named to the Tewaaraton Watchlist earlier this season, ended the regular season with one of the top three highest point totals in the Big Ten for the second consecutive season. In his final campaign, the senior also broke the U-M program record for most career assists (116) while moving into second for most points ever by a Wolverine (223).
The Boca Raton, Fla., native enters the Big Ten playoffs with the third-most career assists among active Division I student-athletes, tied for the fifth-highest point total in the same category. Cohen has also tallied at least one point in each of his 61 outings, the third-most games played in program history.
Fellow first team selection Billings ended his regular season ranked third in the Big Ten with 22 caused turnovers, also finishing top five in the conference with 55 ground balls. The close defender and long-stick midfielder also helped anchor a defense that was second in the league and ninth in the nation with 132 caused turnovers.
Billings' 1.83 takeaways per game is the second-highest single-season average in program history, and his 55 ground balls rank top 10 for most in a campaign.
Mulholland wrapped up his regular season tied for the team lead with 19 goals, a new personal best for the senior midfielder. He is currently ninth on the program's all-time goals list (63) and is one game away from tying the U-M record for most career games played (63). A Manhasset, N.Y., native, Mulholland logged seven multi-point performances this season with points in all but one contest.
Senior John Morgan was also honored as Michigan's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
The All-Big Ten trio will lead the rest of the Wolverines in their Big Ten Tournament title defense starting this weekend with a quarterfinal matchup against Rutgers at 1 p.m. inside the U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Tickets can be purchased now with this link.
A win against the Scarlet Knights would punch Michigan's ticket to the Big Ten Tournament hosted in Ann Arbor from May 1–3, where Ohio State looms for a rivalry rematch in the semifinals.
