Notes
• Michigan is on a three-game winning streak after taking the series finale at No. 15-ranked Oregon on April 6 and midweek wins over Akron and Oakland. The Wolverines are 19-14 overall and 11-7 in non-conference games this season, including wins over Virginia, Stetson and Long Beach State.
• On Saturday, the Wolverines are scheduled to play the 5,000th game in program history. The program dates back to 1866, with their first official contest taking place against Ann Arbor -- a 33-11 Michigan victory. Since then, U-M has won 3,095 games and will become the fourth program in NCAA history to reach the 5,000-game milestone.
• On Tuesday (April 8), Tate Carey threw the first Michigan no-hitter since Ron Hollis against Michigan State in 1994. Carey was the first freshman to throw a seven-inning no-no since Scott Kamieniecki did so in 1983. Carey struck out four batters and issued one walk but faced the minimum number of batters thanks to an inning-ending double play to end the game. This season, he holds a 5.32 earned-run average and a 1.32 WHIP through 22 innings.
• Over the last 10 games, Benny Casillas is hitting a team-leading .500 with 18 hits. He has scored nine runs and has nine RBI over the stretch. Casillas has also drawn 10 walks for a .617 on-base percentage since March 25. He tallied his 200th career hit against Akron on Tuesday. This season, Casillas leads Michigan with a .420 batting average, which is second in the Big Ten.
• Leading the Wolverines with nine home runs, Cole Caruso is hitting .412 over the last 10 games and .311 on the season. Caruso's home run total this season comes after hitting just seven through his first three collegiate seasons. He is just one of three players to appear in every game this season and has started 32 of Michigan's 33 games.
• Coming on strong in conference play, Brayden Jefferis has 10 starts and 20 appearances, the most by a freshman this season. He is hitting .333 with 10 runs and 16 hits, 13 of which have come in the past 10 games, with seven runs and eight RBI. Jefferies has played seven positions this season.
• Greg Pace Jr. is starting to find his footing at the plate. He has started the past six games, appearing in the last 10, and has six hits and seven runs. Two of his hits were home runs for a .750 slugging percentage. Pace has also drawn five walks, helping him to a .565 on-base percentage, good for second on the team over the span.
• Ranking in the top 10 in the Big Ten in nine categories, second baseman Mitch Voit is having a strong season at the plate, slashing .380/.513/.678, with his slugging percentage leading the team. He has 13 doubles and seven home runs, leading the team in runs (34) and RBI (38). Voit is fifth in the Big Ten for on-base percentage, sixth in walks, batting average, and doubles per game, and 10th in total bases. He is the only player to start every game this season.
• In his graduate year, Jeter Ybarra is hitting .279, including .313 over the last 10 games. After no home runs in his first 25 games as a Wolverine, he has hit three in the last eight games -- including two in the past three games. Ybarra joins Caruso and Voit as players who have appeared in every game this season.
• In a two-way role, Will Rogers leads the team in ERA among qualified pitchers and has hit two home runs. Rogers earned the win on Wednesday against Oakland, getting the game's final three outs. He holds a 4.64 ERA through 33 innings with 26 strikeouts. Rogers also is hitting .267 with 10 runs and 12 hits.
• Mount St. Mary's is 14-17 this season and is coming off a midweek win over Navy, but lost a conference series to Rider last weekend. The Mountaineers lost twice to Stetson earlier this season, a team Michigan defeated in Puerto Rico. Mount St. Mary's is 0-3 against the Big Ten this season, being outscored 47-15 by Maryland and Indiana. The programs have previously faced off just once, an 8-7 U-M win in 2013.
