ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team scored three runs in the ninth inning to walk off Washington for the second straight day, as Cade Ladehoff delivered a game-winning base hit in a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon (April 25) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Michigan (27-16, 12-8 Big Ten) entered the ninth trailing 3-1 before Brenden Stressler opened the inning with a leadoff single. Matthew Ossenfort followed with an infield single, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Joonsung Park then drove a ball deep into left-center field, bringing in Stressler and Ossenfort to tie the game at three. After Colby Turner was intentionally walked, Noah Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with one out. Brayden Jefferis was intentionally walked to load the bases before Ladehoff delivered a walk-off single to score Park.
U-M struck first in the bottom of the first when Jefferis doubled home Cooper Mullens for an early 1-0 lead.
Washington (18-23, 8-11 Big Ten) evened the score in the fourth on a leadoff home run. U-M then issued three straight two-out walks to load the bases, but Shane Brinham escaped the jam with a strikeout.
Both teams stranded runners in the middle innings, remaining tied through seven. In the top of the eighth, Washington loaded the bases with no outs after a hit batter and capitalized with a one-out single to score two runs and take a 3-1 lead.
Brinham started and struck out six while allowing one run on three hits over 5.2 innings. Wyatt Novara and Michael Quedens (2-0) combined to throw the final two innings, holding Washington scoreless to set up the comeback.
At the plate, Miller led the Wolverines with two hits, while eight other Michigan players recorded a hit. Turner extended his hitting streak to 23 games to tie a Michigan record since 2000, while reaching base for the 29th straight game. Park led the team with two RBI, while Jefferis and Ladehoff each drove in a run.
The Wolverines will close out the weekend series on Sunday (April 26) against Washington, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
