Notes
• The Wolverines are 8-2 in their last 10 games and 13-3 in their last 16, winning all four conference series during that stretch -- including their first sweep coming last weekend against Northwestern. U-M took down the Wildcats 7-6, 8-3 and 2-1 across the three games and was on a four-game winning streak until dropping a midweek contest 12-10 at Miami (Ohio). Michigan rebounded behind a strong bullpen outing to take down Bowling Green 9-6 on Wednesday (April 22).
• David Lally Jr. is the reigning Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after throwing a nine-inning complete game against Northwestern on Sunday. Lally allowed just one hit and one unearned run in the contest, ending the game by retiring 13 straight batters. The senior holds a 2-2 record with a 3.77 earned-run average this season with 37 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched.
• Colby Turner leads the Big Ten with a .400 batting average, which ranks 20th in the country. Turner is U-M's leader in most hitting categories, including home runs (10), stolen bases (10), runs (43) and RBI (40). The junior has scored a run in 18 straight games, is in the midst of a 21-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 27 straight contests. All three marks are among the top five in program history since 2000.
• Kurt Barr has been U-M's top arm this season, leading the team in innings (55), strikeouts (65) and ERA (3.27) while holding a 5-2 record. Barr is the only Wolverine pitcher to start every weekend this season and pitched a complete game against Michigan State on April 10. The senior is coming off a start that saw him strike out six and allow three runs in five innings against Northwestern. He allowed more than two runs for just the second time this season, but still picked up the win.Â
• Brayden Jefferis is hitting .421 over his last 10 games with a team-leading 10 RBI. He was batting .263 after the Rutgers series (March 27-29) and has recorded at least one hit over the past 15 games, with eight multi-hit games, to boost his average to .318. The sophomore ranks third on the team in on-base percentage, adding 18 walks and nine hit-by-pitches to his 49 hits this season.
• Shane Brinham has emerged as a weekend starter for the Wolverines over the past three weeks. His first weekend start was a seven-inning shutout against Oregon, and he followed it up with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings at Michigan State. The freshman struck out nine while earning his fourth win of the season last weekend against Northwestern. Brinham has just one walk over his last four outings, totaling 21.2 innings. He holds a 4.11 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 35 innings.
• Joonsung Park has started the team's last five games after just six plate appearances entering the weekend series against Northwestern. He is hitting .400 over the past five games with four runs, six hits and four RBI while drawing three walks. The junior has served as the team's designated hitter in those games and holds a .458 on-base percentage this season.
• Gavin DeVooght picked up his second save in five days to bring his season total to nine. Before Friday's one-out save, his last save came on March 25 against Toledo. His nine saves rank third in the Big Ten and are tied for seventh nationally. The junior was named to the NCBWA Midseason Stopper of the Year Watchlist on Wednesday and has a 4.15 ERA in 30.1 innings.
• Washington enters the weekend with an 18-22 record and an 8-10 conference record, sitting in a tie for eighth place in the Big Ten standings. The Huskies started out 1-9, but won their first conference series against Indiana. UW followed it up with a series win over Ohio State before being swept by USC. Washington won its series against Northwestern before winning its opener at Minnesota and the finale at home versus Michigan State last weekend. The Huskies are coming off a midweek win over Portland.
• The Wolverines have faced the Huskies just four times in program history, splitting two games at home in June of 1923, winning 8-7 and losing 10-2. Almost 90 years later, the teams met again in 2014 in San Marcos, Texas, where Washington took the first game 8-6 in extra innings before a 7-7 tie wrapped up the weekend. This will be the first conference meeting between the two opponents.
